Wake Up America

From Random Hipatia

"Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of State and corporate power." ~ Benito Mussolini

As I plan what may be my last foreign trip on my tired old American passport before it expires, I am forced to ponder that the country I once knew has also expired. Indeed, it is ironic that I will be visiting Venezuela soon, a country in the midst of rediscovering the ideals of it’s founder, Simon Bolivar, while my own country has labored so very hard this past decade to destroy all those remaining ideals of individual freedom and shared responsibility it had learned from the native population it colonized.

Soon I must trade my passport in for the new “improved” Gestapo passport; the one with a tracking chip. How ironic it is that the country in which so many hundreds of thousands sacrificed their lives in the last century in the simple belief they were fighting to eliminate fascism abroad should be so openly mocked by those international war criminals who run this country today and bring nothing but shame and disgrace to this nation and to all those who have ever struggled anywhere in the world past or present in the true name of freedom.

Perhaps Bush will be best known for introducing “Compassionate Fascism”; that is Fascism with a little “f”. Rather than rounding up all the Jews and Homosexuals and others en-mass, our compassionate little "furor" and his henchmen only round up “some” of today’s “undesirables”; ecologists and animal rights activists. Indeed a terrorist is being redefined as anyone who interferes with the ability for private corporations to make money. Even then, they primarily persecute those who have the temerity to speak openly and effectively in public. Freedom of speech is dead in this nation, and with our newest enabling acts, soon those shiny new mass detention facilities Haliburton had been building will be open for business.

There is a culture of death in America today. You can hear it on the golf courses where our elites, organized around sociopathic institutions known as corporations, where power is only limited by greed and no individual consequences or social responsibility exist, love to boast of the profits being made in war, and by the destruction of others, both here and abroad. Yes, Katrina, the death and misery of so many “undesirables” in this “new” America, are also openly celebrated as an opportunity to make even greater profits, in a pathetically sad version of the broken window fallacy.

What is equally sad is that today’s fascists are as lethal as ever. The biggest terrorists in the world today are not some former CIA operatives living in Pakistan who now “freelance” terrorism rather than continue serving a state, but those who are part of and use national governments to do their terror and killing for them. Those who have killed over a million civilians in 5 years in Iraq alone, demonstrating that Saddam Hussein was at best an amateur at mass murder. Those who claim they are “legitimate” soldiers as they shoot children in schoolyards, shell beaches in Palestine, and litter towns in Lebanon with cluster bombs.

Recently congress began passing new enabling acts, an ex-post-facto law offering immunity for the past illegal activities of our government operating in collusion with our telecomm corporations, as well as claiming to make their past and present illegal actions fully legal in the future. But this is not the first enabling acts, as previously our congress passed laws allowing our little furor to detain anyone he so designates as “undesirable” without due process, citizen or not, while at the same time seeking legal immunity from both war crimes past and those yet to come. Today I am wearing black, in mourning for the final passing of what was once my nation.

Everywhere I look in the old world I see the lights of human freedom slowly being extinguished, one by one. There are those who have fought long and hard for this moment, and they do not expect to be denied their opportunity. These are the people who are the enemy of freedom. They have chosen their path, and we must be prepared to defend ours or soon there will be nothing left but darkness and brutal barbary. Even as darkness engulfs this land, we will not go quietly into the night. Those of us who truly understand the value of freedom also do know it’s price.

There was a time for discussion, and I think that it might still exist, although that opportunity is rapidly coming to an end. There was a time for direct action, and there remains so especially now. Some of those who understood this early have already paid a terrible price, and we should never let their efforts be in vain. However, there is clearly a time, coming, when we will have to temporarily put aside our individual efforts and goals and come together, in full solidarity, a time when national resistance will be the only remaining option offered.

Wake up America, wake up now, for if you stay asleep, it will not be pleasant dreams; all you will have are nightmares.
